A study said that since 2006, many developing countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America have signed agreements with Huawei to provide cloud infrastructure and e-government services.
The report released by the Washington think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) showed that from 2006 to April this year, Huawei reached 70 transactions for such services with relevant institutions or companies in 41 countries.
Cloud infrastructure typically refers to the deployment of data centers, while e-government services mainly involve automated management functions for approvals, healthcare, legal records, and other government content.
"Huawei's cloud infrastructure and e-government services are processing data such as healthcare, tax and legal records," the study said.
Most of the countries that have signed such agreements with Huawei are in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and Latin America.
Huawei said in a statement: "As a cloud infrastructure and service provider, our customers own and fully control all customer data." Separately, "cybersecurity and user privacy protection remain Huawei's top priorities," the company added.
