nRF Cloud now offers a full suite of services including device management, location and security, increasing flexibility and scalability for IoT customers
Oslo, Norway – May 13, 2024 – Nordic Semiconductor has announced the general availability of nRF Cloud device management services, significantly expanding its cloud services. The new device management service joins the existing positioning and security services to complete the nRF Cloud suite. The launch of this service marks the first time that IoT developers and enterprises have been provided with a one-stop solution for large-scale deployment and management of IoT devices.
nRF Cloud Services Help Customers Harness the Full Potential of the Internet of Things
“With the general availability of nRF Cloud device management, customers can for the first time tap into the transformative potential of a complete suite of cloud services to realize the full potential of the IoT,” said Ville-Veikko Helppi, Product Director for Cloud Solutions at Nordic Semiconductor. “These services address key issues in IoT deployments, from efficient device management to precise location tracking and robust security.”
In addition to device management, the nRF Cloud suite also includes existing positioning services and security services. Positioning services utilize Nordic's advanced positioning technologies, including single cell (SCELL), multi-cell (MCELL), assisted GPS (A-GPS), predicted GPS (P-GPS) and Wi-Fi positioning capabilities. These services not only ensure that the device provides accurate positioning data, but also extend the device's operating time in the field with minimal power consumption. The global availability, efficacy and flexibility of use of these services lay a solid foundation for location-based IoT solutions.
nRF Cloud Security Services provide ready-to-use secure identity and configuration solutions while eliminating the complexity and costs associated with creating proprietary security infrastructure. This enables customers to simplify manufacturing processes and efficiently deploy global IoT products. Lifetime security ensures that devices are protected from commissioning to retirement.
Tailor-made, cost-effective solutions
nRF Cloud was designed from the ground up for low power and any-to-any connectivity, providing device-to-cloud (via MQTT or CoAP (constrained application protocol)) and cloud-to-cloud interfaces (via REST (representational state transfer) API (application programmable interface)). Independent services and flexible pricing models mean that customers can choose only the features they need, ensuring a tailored, cost-effective solution.
nRF Cloud services are tightly integrated with nRF Connect SDK, Nordic’s unified, scalable software development kit. This integration simplifies the development process, allowing developers to focus on creating innovative applications without having to worry about the underlying cloud communication details.
