Market Dynamics | Infineon Launches TRENCHSTOP™ 5 WR6 Series in TO-247-3-HCC Package

Recently, Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY) launched a new 650V TRENCHSTOP™ 5 WR6 series in discrete packaging. The series uses a TO-247-3-HCC package and can achieve a rich product portfolio with rated currents of 20A, 30A, 40A, 50A, 60A and 70A, which can easily replace previous technologies such as Infineon TRENCHSTOP™ 5 WR5 , HighSpeed ​​3 H3 and competitor technologies. The series is optimized for power factor correction (PFC) in home and commercial air conditioning systems and welding applications.

TRENCHSTOP ™ 5 WR6 switches achieve very low conduction losses (30A, 1,45V at 25°C) and lowest switching losses (30A, 1.55mJ at 175°C). They feature a very low saturation voltage (V CE(sat) ) (1.45V) and an integrated reverse-conducting diode with a forward voltage optimized for the target application. This allows the series to achieve a low bill of materials cost while providing best-in-class performance. In addition, the devices offer the performance advantages of their predecessor, the TRENCHSTOP ™ 5 WR5 series.

The WR6 series uses a new TO-247-3-HCC package with increased creepage distance and electrical clearance and higher rated insulation voltage. As a result, the series enables more reliable system design: anti-pollution and anti-condensation, which are often encountered in applications such as outdoor air conditioning. In addition, the TRENCHSTOP ™ 5 WR6 series can also reduce the total cost of system ownership, with lower failure rates, while also achieving higher switching frequencies in applications.
