Report from Leiphone.com (leiphone-sz)
According to Leifeng.com, yesterday, CB Insights released the annual list of the world's top 100 AI startups in 2019.
According to Leifeng.com, the number of companies nominated and applied for the list this time has reached a new high compared with the previous session (more than 2,000). A total of more than 3,000 AI startups participated in the selection, and finally 100 AI startups with the most development prospects were selected worldwide.
The selection criteria for the list have also changed compared to last year (last year's selection criteria were: investor situation, technological innovation, team strength, patent activities, Mosaic score (Note: Mosaic score is a set of algorithms invented by CB Insights, specifically used to measure the overall development and growth potential of private companies), financing history, valuation and business model.), including: number of patents, investor situation, team strength, market potential, partnerships, competitive environment and innovation.
These 100 AI companies are disrupting 12 core industries, including: healthcare, telecommunications, semiconductors, government, retail and finance, as well as the broader enterprise technology sector.
The 100 companies on the list are in different rounds, ranging from seed round, angel round to E+ round.
As can be seen from the above figure, the number of companies in the seed/angel round is gradually decreasing, while the number of companies above the C round is gradually increasing. However, the number of unicorn companies with a valuation of more than US$1 billion has not changed compared with last year, and is still 11.
Here is the complete list of the 11 unicorn companies:
Among these 11 unicorn companies, 5 are Chinese companies, accounting for almost half of the share, but it is worth noting that there are only 6 Chinese companies on the list. In addition to the above 5 unicorn companies, the 6th one is Horizon Robotics.
Last year, there were seven Chinese companies on the Top 100 list, namely: Megvii Technology, Mobvoi, Toutiao, Liulishuo, UBTECH Robotics, SenseTime, and Cambricon.
AI companies with the most funding
Two of the top three AI companies with the most annual financing are from China. SenseTime topped the list with an annual financing amount of US$1.63 billion, and Megvii ranked second with a financing amount of US$608 million. The third place is Zymergen from the United States (financing amount in 2018 was US$574 million). The company was founded in 2013 and is committed to using machine learning and other technologies to reorganize the genetic structure of microorganisms. This enhanced microorganism has been used in industrial processes including the production of generic drugs.
Most Active Investment Institutions
More than 680 independent investors provided funding to these companies, including corporations, corporate venture capitalists (CVCs), venture capital firms (VCs), and angel investors. The following is a list of the most active investment institutions:
