Leifeng.com has learned that Kathy Lee, president of Google Cloud Greater China, may step down, and her position will reportedly be taken over by Bin Shen, former vice president of Microsoft Greater China and head of the consumer and devices division.
Several sources said the main reason for the personnel changes was internal power struggles. Previously, there had been rumors of discord between Li Kongyuan and Google Asia Pacific.
Leifeng.com previously learned that Li Kongyuan first worked at AWS China and worked with the first head of AWS China, Yung Wing Kang. It is said that after leaving AWS, he brought two people to Google Cloud, one is Tian Zhuo and the other is Li Shanrui. Later, Tian Zhuo left Google Cloud and joined Microsoft Cloud China. He is currently in charge of the Digital Native Division, serving major customers such as Tik Tok and Temu. Li Shanrui is currently in charge of the KA major customer department at Google Cloud China.
During Li Kongyuan's tenure, ByteDance and SHEIN were the two main customers of Google Cloud China, but apart from that, Google Cloud's progress in other new major customers has been unsatisfactory. Therefore, Li Kongyuan, as the helmsman of Google Cloud China, has been questioned about his ability.
Regarding the possible successor, Shen Bin, according to news on Microsoft's official website, Shen Bin had previously served as president of Honeywell China, vice president of corporate strategy and new business development at Verizon Communications, and vice president of Motorola and general manager of Asia product management for the mobile terminal business unit.
In July 2019, Shen Bin joined Microsoft as Vice President of Microsoft Greater China and Head of Consumer and Devices Division, reporting to Ami Silverman, then Microsoft's Global Senior Vice President and Head of Global Sales of Consumer and Devices Division. After 2022, Shen Bin began to serve as Vice President of Microsoft Global Partner Solutions, based in the United States.
According to many industry insiders, Google Cloud's revenue target in China in 2024 is $1.2 billion. The revenue in 2023 is basically above this line, and the main goal in 2024 is to maintain the volume. Leifeng.com will keep track of the impact of the change of leadership in China on Google Cloud's business in China.
