According to Leifeng.com AI Technology Review, after the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences established my country's first artificial intelligence technology college, Xidian University, Hunan University of Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, Nankai University, Nanjing University and other universities have also established artificial intelligence colleges. Recently, Renmin University of China also established an artificial intelligence college.
On January 19, Renmin University of China established the Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence in response to the country's strategic call for the development of a new generation of artificial intelligence, and to further promote the school's "Double First-Class" construction by developing artificial intelligence and cutting-edge interdisciplinary disciplines.
The founding ceremony was attended by Jin Nuo, Party Secretary of Renmin University of China, Liu Wei, President of Renmin University of China, Zhang Jianming, Executive Deputy Party Secretary, Wang Liming, Executive Vice President of Renmin University of China, and Zhang Lei, founder of Hillhouse Capital Group and alumnus of Renmin University of China. Vice President Zhu Xinkai presided over the ceremony.
In recent years, global artificial intelligence technology has advanced by leaps and bounds, and artificial intelligence has become a battleground for countries to demonstrate their innovative strength. Artificial intelligence is not only a problem at the forefront of science and technology, but also a new scientific understanding of human growth, training, and education. The Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence will build on the advantages of humanities and social sciences at Renmin University of China to make open explorations in talent training and make new contributions to solving the fundamental problem of "who to train, what kind of people to train, and how to train people."
Gaoling Artificial Intelligence College is a secondary college under the university, responsible for the planning and construction of the university's artificial intelligence-related disciplines, and for the training of talents and scientific research in this discipline. Gaoling Artificial Intelligence College will adhere to the development policy of "high starting point, high level, internationality, and innovation", and in accordance with the development goals of "innovating first-class systems and mechanisms, building a first-class faculty, cultivating first-class professional talents, and producing first-class scientific research results", give full play to the university's existing advantages in artificial intelligence-related disciplines, build a world-class artificial intelligence discipline, and enhance the university's international influence and competitiveness.
According to reports, after graduating from Renmin University of China, Zhang Lei has always paid attention to and supported the development of his alma mater for many years. In 2011, Zhang Lei donated to establish the Gaoli Institute at Renmin University. After joint efforts by all parties, the Gaoli Institute has now become a top young leader and outstanding talent training platform for world-renowned universities and companies. In 2017, Zhang Lei donated 300 million yuan to his alma mater to establish the "Renmin University of China Gaoling Gaoli Education Development Fund" to enhance the international influence and competitiveness of Renmin University, cultivate innovative and top talents with a global vision, and provide long-term financial support for the school's new innovative interdisciplinary disciplines. The construction of the Gaoling School of Artificial Intelligence will be supported by initial donations.
