Be self-reliant: Engineers are so unique as foodies!
Last week, we asked everyone what DIY ideas they had for using chips. Everyone’s ideas really came from life and returned to life, from taking care of children to cooking.
Today I would like to introduce to you a DIY project of a foreign engineer using the Cypress PSoC kit - mushroom cultivation . This project is down-to-earth. In general, the mushroom cultivation process is automated by precisely controlling the cultivation parameters such as temperature, humidity, light, and checking the growth conditions.
Nowadays, mushroom cultivation is not all for profit, many people have developed it into a hobby of "do it yourself, have enough food and clothing". In online stores that specialize in various mushroom bags and have monthly sales of over 10,000, you can see many photos of the joy of harvest and detailed introductions to cultivation experience.
Of course, there are also many failed examples, which are often due to the failure to control humidity, temperature and other conditions.
In mushroom cultivation, ventilation is a very important factor, which also affects humidity and temperature. The temperature suitable for mycelium growth, fruiting temperature, fruit body formation and development temperature are all different, and the ideal soil moisture and air humidity also need to be controlled within a specific range. In addition, although mushrooms as fungi do not need photosynthesis, the cultivation room cannot be completely without lighting.
In the DIY mushroom cultivation system, Cypress's CY8CKIT PSoC analog coprocessor pioneer kit contains sensors that control temperature, humidity, and lighting, respectively, which can adjust the environmental conditions suitable for mushroom growth.
Control is performed through the three pins of the port shown in the figure below:
The following figure shows the control of heater, fan, lighting and mist humidifier.
As shown in the figure below, use PSoC Creator to program the hardware and control the temperature, humidity, and lighting sensors.
Each sensor will independently execute the algorithm involving different intervening variables. The hardware module needs to be initialized first, complete the ADC conversion, and adjust the values of each sensor. In this way, the indoor environment that meets the needs of mushrooms at different growth stages can be created through numerical control.
This DIY project idea based on the Cypress PSoC kit can also be applied to the cultivation of other plants. I hope everyone can discover more creative fun by using Cypress products.
