Murata's miniaturized RFID tags have six major application areas. Let's take a look!
Since 2017, the huge market space of RFID technology has gradually become the focus of many manufacturers. RFID technology is a radio-based information identification technology, also known as electronic tags.
Conceptually, RFID is similar to barcode technology. Barcode technology attaches barcode information to items and scans the barcode on the item with a scanner to obtain the item's information. RFID technology attaches RFID tags to items and reads the information in the tags into the RFID reader through radio frequency signals to obtain the item's unique information.
However, RFID technology is superior to barcode technology in many aspects. RFID identifiers can identify multiple RFID tags at the same time, even when there are obstacles blocking them. The data memory capacity is quite large, and the size of RFID tags can continue to become smaller.
Miniaturization has always been the outstanding advantage of Murata Manufacturing ("Murata"), a well-known manufacturer of electronic components and solutions, in RFID technology.
From July 31 to August 2, 2018, the 10th Shenzhen International Internet of Things Expo (IOTE 2018) was grandly held at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. Murata made a grand appearance with the theme of "Interpreting the Infinite Possibilities of RFID Technology" . Xin Shiye saw the miniaturized design of Murata's RFID tag module on site and listened to the introduction of Murata's technical staff on the application scenarios of RFID technology in various fields. Murata's RFID application fields include six different scenarios such as PCB boards, optical fibers, accessories/wearables, surgical instruments, medical test tubes, and laundry .

Murata RFID tags have six major application areas
1. Application on PCB board
At the exhibition, Murata technicians told Xinshiye reporters that PCB boards need to go through multiple links in the manufacturing process, from factory to warehouse, to logistics and sales, and problems can easily occur during the operation of the staff.
Murata UHF RFID tags are small in size, and the RF circuit can be built into the LTCC substrate and directly installed on the PCB board, which can help staff track and manage products. Because of its small size, it does not take up too much space. This technology can be applied in areas such as the full life cycle management of electronic products.

2. Application in medical electronics
In the medical field, Murata's ultra-small RFID tags can withstand harsh operating environments such as low temperature and humidity. They can be used in medical test tubes. They can also quickly detect and count multiple tags, efficiently read and write information, and realize life cycle management of tools and equipment.
In addition, Murata has also launched anti-metal UHF RFID tags, which can be easily attached to objects through glue, tape or heat shrink, and use the metal surface of the object as a booster for the antenna. It can be used for the management of surgical instruments, achieve traceability and product tracking, and reduce the occurrence of medical accidents.
At the exhibition, Murata staff told Xinshiye reporters that many customers have expressed interest in the newly launched anti-metal UHF RFID tags and are negotiating cooperation.

3. Application in accessories and wearable products
During the exhibition, the application of Murata RFID tags in jewelry, accessories and wearable products attracted many visitors to stop and watch. People were surprised at how Murata managed to embed the RFID tag in a small ring without affecting the appearance of the product.
Miniaturization has always been a unique advantage of Murata products. The RFID tags embedded in jewelry, accessories and wearable products exhibited this time are Murata's smallest size (1.25 x 1.25 x 0.55 mm).
Murata's technical staff introduced to the Xinshiye reporter that the use of RFID technology can record the manufacturing information, distribution channels, purchase information, etc. of the goods, and store the data in the cloud for unified management, which can be accessed at any time to prevent counterfeit and shoddy products and effectively protect the brand.

4. Murata RFID laundry tags for uniform management
Murata's ultra-thin flexible UHF RFID tags also attracted many visitors.
This product is durable enough to withstand high-pressure sterilization, is small, sturdy, chemically resistant, washable and dry-cleanable, and is also suitable for high-temperature cleaning and medical disinfection environments.
Sewing this product onto clothes can assist in automatic classification machine identification and can be applied to laundry management, uniform rental management, clothing warehousing management and other fields to reduce labor costs, improve work efficiency and is suitable for environments with strict usage requirements such as hospitals and factories.

5. Application in optical fiber
Murata's ultra-small RFID tags can also be used in optical fiber production, sales process tracking, and ODF, data center and other system maintenance.
Nowadays, the scale of fiber optic networks is becoming larger and larger, and the structure is becoming more and more complex. Manual management can no longer meet market demand. Applying RFID technology to traditional fiber optic networks can achieve fast and efficient pairing and authentication, and provide a scientific and effective management model for operational support.
