ON Semiconductor 's leadership in SiC is based on five pillars of the SiC ecosystem. With the acquisition of GTAT, we are now a fully integrated SiC manufacturer. We manufacture our own SiC ingots, then cut them into wafers and add an epitaxial layer (Epi) on top of each wafer. Epi enables each device to have a breakdown voltage and optimized resistance characteristics suitable for the application.
The Epi wafers are then processed in the fab and we are now using SiC planar technology. We are currently migrating from 150mm wafers to 200mm wafers. We then package the bare die into standard SiC discrete devices or SiC modules.
ON Semiconductor’s comprehensive control of the SiC ecosystem ensures control over the supply chain while also improving the reliability and performance of end products.
