News Summary
  • ON Semiconductor to be the primary supplier of image sensors for Subaru’s next-generation EyeSight stereo camera forward perception system

  • Hyperlux image sensors use full pixel design and high dynamic range (HDR) to significantly improve image clarity and accuracy

  • Hyperlux sensors are equipped with functional safety features to ensure a higher level of system safety and reliability

  • This selection builds on the long-standing collaboration between the two companies, with ON Semiconductor providing custom sensors for multiple generations of Subaru’s stereo camera forward perception systems to improve vehicle safety

ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ON) has announced that it will become the primary supplier of image sensors for Subaru's next-generation EyeSight stereo camera forward perception system for future models. ON Semiconductor's advanced Hyperlux AR0823AT image sensors will serve as the "eyes" of the system, capturing the critical visual data required for Subaru's stereo camera artificial intelligence algorithms, enabling cars to make more accurate driving decisions and improve the overall safety of the vehicle.

“Capturing accurate and reliable visual data is critical to the success of AI driver assistance systems and can significantly improve overall vehicle safety,” said Hassane El-Khoury, president and CEO of ON Semiconductor . “ON Semiconductor’s Hyperlux image sensors combine high-performance imaging with compliance to critical safety standards to ensure Subaru’s next-generation systems can interpret the driving environment and make accurate driving decisions.”

The Hyperlux AR0823AT features a full-pixel design that captures clear images regardless of lighting conditions, and special controls to ensure that the EyeSight stereo camera's two sensors capture images synchronously. This is critical for stereo vision systems that mimic human vision, allowing them to discern depth and the relative size and distance of objects in the vehicle's path. In addition, the sensor's high dynamic range (HDR) captures details in both bright and shadowed areas of a scene to ensure that AI systems can make accurate decisions.

"Subaru is committed to achieving its vision goal of 'Zero Fatal Road Accidents by 2030*'. We see ON Semiconductor, a market leader in automotive image perception technology, as a partner who shares our vision and commitment to improving safety, and we look forward to accelerating our collaboration and leveraging our respective strengths," said Eiji Shibata, Executive Officer and Chief Digital Car Officer (CDCO) of Subaru Corporation . "To achieve our vision, we will continue to advance the performance of the next-generation EyeSight with integrated AI by adopting advanced image sensors such as the AR0823AT."

The Hyperlux AR0823AT also has functional safety features that meet the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) C standard to ensure the safety and reliability of driver assistance systems. These features actively monitor the functionality of the sensors and can take actions such as resetting the camera or alerting the driver if a fault is detected that could affect the accuracy of the system.

*Zero fatal traffic accidents involving occupants of Subaru vehicles and persons collided with Subaru vehicles (including pedestrians and cyclists)
