Unexpectedly, Chinese chip companies have entered a new field. Xi'an Unigroup Guoxin recently announced the launch of the 12nm GDDR6 memory controller and physical interface IP (GDDR6 MC/PHY IP). Unigroup Guoxin has previously made DDR memory chips and NAND flash memory, but this is the first time it has launched IP chips related to video memory, and the quality is not low.

The process technology used is GF's 12nm LP low-power process, and it also produces GDDR6 memory controller and physical interface IP (GDDR6 MC/PHY IP), which can be understood as the main control chip of GDDR6 video memory.

According to Unigroup Guoxin, this GDDR6 MC/PHY IP includes a configurable memory controller (MC) that fully complies with the DFI3.1 and AMBA AXI4.0 standards, and allows design engineers to generate GDDR6 controllers with optimized latency and bandwidth to meet the requirements of high-performance applications such as graphics cards, game consoles, and AI computing.

The IP is optimized for power consumption and performance. Xi'an Unigroup Guoxin's GDDR6 physical interface (PHY) provides data rates of up to 12Gbps/13Gbps/14Gbps/16Gbps and is compatible with JEDEC250 and DFI3.1 standards.

The physical interface (PHY) section also embeds a high-performance phase-locked loop to meet strict timing specifications.

Integrated with mainstream GDDR6 memory chips, the IP has been verified by tape-out tests to meet the design specification requirements at 12Gbps/14Gbps/16Gbps data rates. When the data rate is 16Gbps, the average maximum power consumption per DQ is less than 4mW/Gbps.

Currently, Unigroup Guoxin's GDDR6 MC/PHY IP has been launched on GlobalFoundries' 12LP process platform.
