This is not a static picture, it is a 4K video demonstration of the engineering prototype of the MT6595 4G true octa-core processor that MediaTek will release on July 15. You can zoom in and out of the video in real time like zooming in on a picture, and watch any HD video details! In addition, the MT6595 can also shoot 30-frame 4K video, turning your phone into a 4K camera! A well-known domestic brand mobile phone equipped with such a powerful processor will be available in the third quarter of this year, and its price will exceed your imagination!
With the advent of the 4G era, the functions of mobile phones will undergo tremendous changes with the support of high-bandwidth connections. MediaTek Product Planning Director Lee Yen-Chi said at a recent technical analysis meeting for MT6595: "4G and 64-bit will become two highlights of future mobile phones, and 4G will be faster in the future." Moreover, in the 4G era, mobile phones are not only consumers of content, but also content producers, such as supporting 4K video recording and playback. In addition, they will also play an important role in cross-platform content sharing.
MT6595: Super powerful performance, running points over 40,000
Although the running score of MT6595 was not disclosed in this analysis meeting, there are recent news that the running score of MT6595 has reached an astonishing 43,000 points. The exact number will be revealed the day after tomorrow.
MT6595 adopts ARM's Big.Little architecture, consisting of four Cortex-A17 and four Cortex-A7 cores, of which the Cortex-A17 core frequency can reach up to 2.2GHz, and the Cortex-A7 core frequency is 1.7GHz, and it supports dual-channel 933MHz LPDDR3 memory at most. Due to the use of CorePilot heterogeneous computing technology, these eight cores can be automatically adjusted and allocated according to the core temperature, and can run one big and four small cores, or three small cores.
Li Yanji said that MT6595 has three world firsts: First, it is the first to adopt the ARMCortex-A17c processor architecture, which has a 10% performance improvement and 30% power consumption reduction over the A15! Second, it is the first octa-core processor with integrated 4G modem (this statement is not very accurate, HiSilicon Kirin 920 is also an octa-core processor that supports 4G). MT6595 has a built-in LTE modem that supports 5 modes and more than 30 frequency bands, and is compatible with domestic FDD/TD-LTE networks but only supports CAT4 standards. Third, it is the world's first processor solution that supports H.265 hardware editing code.
Four highlights of MT6595
Highlight 1: Outstanding image and video processing capabilities
MT6595 integrates Imagination Technologies' latest PowerVR Series 6 graphics processor (GPU) G6200, which supports high-performance image processing and rich multimedia specifications. It can support 4K video and 2K-level resolution screens. It supports up to 20 million pixel photos and 4K standard video (30FPS), and can be matched with a display screen of up to WQXGA (2K level). In addition, a feature is that it can achieve super-resolution images through interpolation algorithms, processing a low-resolution image into a high-resolution image. In this way, this phone does have a bit of PC feel!
Highlight 2: CorePilot heterogeneous computing technology balances temperature and performance
"Currently, power consumption has become the number one concern in CPU design. MediaTek's CorePilot technology uses advanced heterogeneous scheduling algorithms, adaptive temperature control technology, and dynamic power management technology to dynamically detect workloads and intelligently adjust the task allocation of each core. For example, all eight cores can be turned on for large tasks, while idle cores can be flexibly turned off for ordinary tasks, reducing energy consumption by up to 70%." Li Yanji said. "In summary, it is about matching the right cores to the right tasks."
Generally speaking, big.LITTLE has three working modes:
1. ClusterMiration mode: When switching between A7 and A17, you must "cluster in and cluster out", that is, either four A7 cores are activated or four A17 cores are activated, but not at the same time. This mode has good performance, but the flexibility of energy consumption is not very good.
2.CPU Migration mode: The A7 and A17 cores are paired in pairs, with a total of four pairs. Only one core in each pair will be activated, which means that there may be 3 A7 cores + 1 A17 core, or 2 A7 cores + 2 A17 cores executing work at the same time (and so on), which can balance performance and energy consumption.
3. HMP mode: four A7 and four A15 cores can be started at the same time to perform heterogeneous work, with the best performance and flexibility, but the greatest implementation complexity. (It is said that the processor of a certain mobile phone company is planted in this mode, which is called this mode but is actually the first mode).
According to reports, CorePilot technology is a new technology developed by MediaTek for ARM's Big.Little heterogeneous multi-tasking architecture. It can control the operation of CPU cores, reduce power consumption and improve efficiency.
In actual operation, heterogeneous scheduling algorithms, adaptive temperature control technology, and dynamic power management technology are used simultaneously to achieve energy efficiency control and a balance between temperature and performance.
In the live demonstration, when the task is just loaded, the system will give priority to performance, which will cause the problem to rise quickly. Then the system will make a judgment and run the task at the appropriate temperature and performance. The official data given on site is that when using CorePilot technology, the performance is 100%, using only four large cores (Big) is 105%, and using only four small cores (Little) is 65%; the heating temperatures are 55°C, 65°C and 42°C respectively.
Li Yanji also said that MT6595 supports OpenCL dynamic adjustment algorithm, which can assign computing tasks to GPU for parallel processing.
Highlight 3: High-quality audio comparable to that of Apple 5S
Lin Zongyao, director of MediaTek's computing platform technology development department, said that MT6595 has made further improvements in audio processing, supporting 24-bit 192KHz audio, with a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 110dB and a total harmonic distortion THD less than 90dB. Judging from the indicators, it has reached the level of professional audiophile-grade audio. Therefore, it can bring users a super audio experience.
Highlight 4: Multi-screen interaction brings surprises
Lin Zongyao said that as the only company in the world working in the fields of television, tablet and mobile phone, MediaTek's advantages in multi-screen interaction are unmatched by other manufacturers. He said that although there are many technologies for multi-screen interaction, such as wifi, Bluetooth, DLNA, MiraCast, DIAL, etc., the experience of each technology always has flaws, resulting in a poor user experience.
"Our idea is to use the existing connection technology to provide users with simple and easy-to-use effects," he said.
Traditionally, in multi-screen interaction, devices cannot communicate effectively with each other. For example, when a mobile phone plays a movie, it does not know whether the TV can support the movie playback on the mobile phone. In the future, using MediaTek's solution, when the mobile phone user is near the TV, the TV will display on the mobile phone that it can receive mobile phone videos. As long as the mobile phone user taps an icon, the video can be played on the TV.
Lin Zongyao said that the ultimate goal is to achieve the same experience in different devices, different operating systems, different browsers and different multimedia formats. Of course, this requires the support of the industry. He said that MediaTek will open the SDK to developers to achieve the best user experience of multi-screen interaction. Perhaps, there will be more surprises waiting for us in the official release on July 15 regarding multi-screen interaction.
In general, MediaTek's future strengths will be its years of accumulation in the multimedia field, and it will gradually make efforts in the popular smart home and wearable fields through mobile phones.
There may be more surprises released on July 15th, let’s wait and see.
