Nowadays, the application of sensors is not new in both industrial and medical fields. In previous applications, complex use environments may affect the sensitivity of sensors, affect measurement results, and be unfavorable for precise control.



Do dirt, dust and oil also affect the performance of your sensors? To cope with harsh environmental challenges, TE Connectivity (TE), a global leader in connectivity and sensor technology, has launched the KMXP series AMR position sensor , which can effectively avoid this situation!

What is an AMR sensor?

You may not know what an AMR sensor is. AMR sensors are sensors based on the anisotropic magnetoresistance effect . AMR sensors are generally used in situations where certain accuracy is required. They can be used to measure linear displacement and rotation angle.



In the field of position measurement, AMR sensors have the characteristics of high accuracy and high cost-effectiveness . Compared with sensors based on optical principles, AMR sensor measurement is not easily disturbed by dust, so it has more advantages in harsh working environments. Since there is no need for physical contact during measurement, AMR sensors can work in harsh environments (such as dusty environments) and maintain excellent measurement accuracy.

TE's KMXP AMR sensor contains multiple AMR sensor chips, which can be used to sense the magnetic field distribution of a ferrite magnet to achieve high-precision contactless linear displacement or rotation angle measurement . Different types of KMXP series AMR sensors can meet different requirements. Different magnetic pole pitch products (1mm/2mm/5mm) have different detection air gaps ( the distance between the magnet and the AMR chip ) (0.5mm/1mm/2mm) and different measurement accuracy.



KMXP5000, 2000 and 1000 have different sensor chip layouts, covering 1, 2 and 4 poles respectively, to reduce potential scale errors caused by small air gaps. For most applications, 2mm pole pitch is a good compromise because it combines the best of both worlds: practical 2-pole interpolation 1mm air gap and high accuracy. As a rule of thumb, the achievable accuracy is: pole pitch (mm)/100, and the detection resolution is: pole pitch (mm)/1000.
