Samsung Display announces LEDoS development technology, targeting the AR device market
Recently, Samsung Display (SDC) announced the prospects of silicon-based LED (LEDoS) technology for augmented reality (AR) device displays. It is expected that LEDoS technology will develop from the "blue + quantum dot (QD)" method to the "RGB 3-panel" and "Monolithic 1-panel" methods. Huh Jong-moo, vice president of Samsung Display, introduced various LEDoS technologies at the Micro Display Conference. The biggest feature of LEDoS is that it replaces the glass substrate with a silicon substrate, and deposits inorganic materials (LEDs) on the silicon substrate to form Micro LEDs. LEDoS is widely considered to be suitable for AR device displays because AR devices need to interact with reality, such as marking information in the real world through the AR device screen. LED-based LEDoS has the advantage of screen brightness in this context.

DRAM industry revenue increased 5% month-on-month to US$18.35 billion
Recently, TrendForce's survey showed that in the first quarter of 2024, the contract price of mainstream products increased, and the increase was larger than that in the fourth quarter of 2023, driving the DRAM industry's revenue to increase by 5.1% to US$18.35 billion compared with the fourth quarter of 2023, driving the revenue of most manufacturers to show a quarterly increase trend. TrendForce pointed out that in the first quarter, the shipments of the three major original manufacturers, Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron, all showed a quarterly decrease, reflecting the off-season effect of the industry, coupled with the high inventory levels of downstream manufacturers, and the obvious decline in procurement. TrendForce predicts that the shipments of the three major original manufacturers in the second quarter will be: Samsung's shipments will increase by low single digits to high single digits, SK Hynix's quarterly increase will be in the mid-single digits, and Micron's slight quarterly decrease.

discrete graphics card shipments fell to 8.7 million units, with Nvidia accounting for 88% of the market
Recently, according to the latest report from analysis firm Jon Peddie Research (JPR), global discrete graphics card (AIB) shipments fell month-on-month in the first quarter of 2024, from 9.5 million units in the previous quarter to 8.7 million units, but increased by 39% year-on-year. Nvidia's market share climbed to as high as 88%, AMD's graphics card share fell to 12%, and Intel's graphics card share was less than 1%. Institutional analysts believe that the entire industry has been hoping to return to seasonal patterns, and data from the first quarter of 2024 showed this sign. Independent graphics card shipments are expected to grow in the second quarter, partly due to the shortage of GPUs in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), which has led users to seek gaming graphics cards as alternatives.

Samsung's Lee Jae-yong met with Meta, Qualcomm and Amazon leaders to cooperate in areas such as AI
Samsung Electronics President Lee Jae-yong met with the heads of Meta, Qualcomm and Amazon in the United States this week to discuss cooperation, the topics of which included artificial intelligence (AI), cloud services and chips. Samsung officials said that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg invited Lee Jae-yong to his home on June 11, and the two sides discussed issues such as AI, virtual reality, and enhanced display. In addition, Lee Jae-yong also met with Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon to discuss cooperation in the semiconductor field, including Amazon data center and cloud server chips, and Qualcomm mobile processor chip contract manufacturing. Samsung plans to hold a company-wide strategic meeting at the end of June to discuss the cooperation matters of Lee Jae-yong's meeting with the three American technology giants.
