TI launches high-speed CAN transceiver [Copy link]

Texas Instruments (TI) has announced a controller area network (CAN) transceiver with industry-leading electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection up to +/- 8 kV (Human Body Model). This powerful device is known for its higher electromagnetic immunity (EMI) and extremely low electromagnetic interference (EME), which can maintain operation and normal operation in harsh electronic environments such as automotive engines, bodies and diagnostic networks.

The SN65HVD1050Q not only meets the requirements of AEC-Q100 for automotive applications, but also meets or exceeds the physical layer requirements specified by the International Standards Organization (ISO) 11898-2. The device provides twice the ESD protection of similar devices, thereby reducing the need for external protection components.

The SN65HVD1050Q provides two operating modes: normal and silent. The normal mode is dedicated to regular bus communication, providing differential transmission and differential reception functions for the bus and CAN controller respectively at a signaling rate of up to 1 Mbps. A silent mode with listen-only capability provides the option to disable the driver while keeping the receiver operational, allowing all bus activity to be communicated to the local protocol controller. The SN65HVD1050Q also complements TI's full range of automotive MCUs and digital signal processors (DSPs) with integrated CAN peripherals, including the TMS470 MCUs and digital radio, infotainment and video DSPs. Other

key features
Support for customer-specific configuration control and major change approval Drop
-in replacement for competitive devices
GIFT/ICT compliant
–27 V to 40 V bus fault protection
Master timing capability
Thermal shutdown protection Glitch-
free bus inputs and outputs during power up/down
High input impedance with low VCC
Monotonic outputs during power cycles

The SN65HVD1050Q is available in volume production now from TI and its authorized distributors in an industry-standard 8-pin SOIC package for a single transceiver. Suggested resale pricing starts at $0.59 each in quantities of 1,000.
