On May 27, according to the China Aviation News, the independent GPU chip of Xiangteng Microelectronics Company of the Institute of Computing Technology entered the airworthiness certification stage.
It is reported that the HKM9000 graphics processing unit (GPU) independently developed by Xiangteng Microelectronics Company of the Aviation Industry Computing Institute has passed the joint test of the cockpit display and control system of large civil aircraft and entered the airworthiness certification stage, becoming the first GPU chip in China to be applied in the civil aircraft field.
This GPU chip was successfully developed in April 2020. At present, a complete application development ecosystem has been established, and the adaptation work of nearly 20 processors, Tianmai, Yihui, VxWorks and other operating systems and graphics application development software such as VAPS, iDATA, and SCADE has been completed; it has broken through many technical difficulties such as GPU multi-partition and multi-task parallel processing required by the new cockpit display and control system. It has been successfully applied to more than 10 users in multiple fields and nearly 20 display and control products, and the product functions are stable.
As we all know, GPU is the core chip of the display system, which involves hundreds of complex processing algorithms, multi-task parallel pipeline graphics processing architecture, large-scale high-performance processing circuits, and multidisciplinary technologies such as mathematics, computer graphics, computer architecture, microelectronics, and software. The chip design, verification, physical implementation and application scenario adaptation process are extremely complex.
In order to meet the airborne system's demand for autonomous and efficient GPU applications, the Institute of Computing Technology's Xiangteng Microelectronics Company has insisted on an independent forward-developed technology route. After nearly 10 years of unremitting efforts, it has mastered the entire process from application scenarios, demand definition, core algorithms, fully autonomous architecture, complex algorithm circuit implementation, software ecology, and model-based agile R&D. It can provide a full set of design documents, data, and source code, becoming the first choice for GPU chips for many cockpit display and control systems.
