IT Home reported on March 27 that according to the Russian Satellite News Agency, due to US sanctions, Google has stopped certifying smartphones of Russia's BQ company running the Android system. The company will switch to the Hongmeng system created by China's Huawei.
BQ General Manager Vladimir Buzhanov said the company had received a notice from Google stating that US law prohibits the provision of services to Russia, including the provision of US-origin software and technology to Russia. BQ is already testing China's Huawei's Hongmeng operating system, and BQ's new smartphone equipped with Hongmeng operating system may be launched in the second half of 2022.
Buzhanov also said: "All the company's certified devices will continue to operate normally, and new devices may have problems with the Android system."
IT Home learned that Google also issued a notice to developers earlier this month, announcing that users of the Russian Play Store will soon be suspended from purchasing apps/games, and the in-app purchase and subscription functions will also be suspended. At that time, Russian Android phone users will not be able to purchase and subscribe to software through the Google Play Store.
