Contrast is one of the important indicators for evaluating the picture quality of liquid crystal displays (LCDs). In real usage scenarios, due to the influence of ambient light, the reflectivity of the display panel will affect the contrast of the picture, thereby affecting the user's viewing experience.
Therefore, if you want to improve the contrast of the display panel, you can start from two aspects: increase the brightness of the display panel in the bright state; or reduce the reflectivity of the display panel. At the same time, as the market demand for borderless products grows, the TFT (thin film transistor) side-facing solution is conducive to improving the module yield of four-sided borderless products.
However, the metal reflection in the TFT area is strong, and the reflectivity of the light-transmitting area is also higher than when the CF side faces outward, which significantly increases the reflectivity of the display panel to ambient light and also reduces the image quality of the display panel. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the reflectivity of the display panel to improve the image quality and display effect of the display panel.
To this end, TCL Huaxing Optoelectronics applied for an invention patent entitled "An array substrate and display panel" (application number: 202011108115.4) on October 16, 2020, and the applicant was TCL Huaxing Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd.
Based on the relevant information currently disclosed in this patent, let us take a look at this display panel technology.
As shown in the above figure, it is a schematic diagram of the first structure of the array substrate invented in this patent, wherein the array substrate 10 includes a substrate 101, a transparent insulating layer 102, a light absorbing layer 103, a thin film transistor layer 104, a first protective layer 105 and a color filter layer 106.
The substrate includes a first surface 101a and a second surface 101b arranged opposite to each other, a transparent insulating layer is arranged on the first surface, a light absorbing layer is arranged on a side of the transparent insulating layer away from the first surface, and a plurality of through holes are arranged on the light absorbing layer. A thin film transistor layer is arranged on a side of the light absorbing layer away from the transparent insulating layer, and is arranged corresponding to the light absorbing layer.
As shown in the figure above, it is a schematic diagram of the structure of the display panel, which mainly includes an array substrate 10 and a color filter substrate 20. The solution in this patent improves the problem of high reflectivity in the area where the thin film transistor layer is set by setting a light absorbing layer in the array substrate, and at the same time sets a transparent insulating layer on the entire surface between the substrate and the light absorbing layer. On the one hand, the transparent insulating layer can improve the problem of high reflectivity in the corresponding area of the color filter layer, and on the other hand, it can enhance the adhesion between the light absorbing layer and the substrate, making the structure of the array substrate more stable.
Since a transparent insulating layer and a light-absorbing layer are added to the array substrate, the problem of high reflectivity of the display panel with side light output from the array substrate can be solved, and the image quality of the display panel can be enhanced, so that the display panel can better adapt to the market's full-screen demand.
The above is the array substrate and display panel with lower reflectivity invented by TCL Huaxing Optoelectronics. In this solution, since a transparent insulating layer and a light-absorbing layer are added to the array substrate, the problem of high reflectivity of the display panel with side light output from the array substrate can be solved. At the same time, the image quality of the display panel can be enhanced, so that the display panel can better adapt to the full-screen demand of the market.
