Samsung's mobile phone market share in India and Russia is strongly impacted by Chinese brands

Three years ago, Samsung Electronics lost its top spot in the Indian mobile phone market to Xiaomi. Now, its second place is also threatened by vivo.

Data recently released by market research firm Canalys shows that in the second quarter, Samsung's share of the Indian smartphone market was 17%, ranking second. Its shipments of 5.5 million units were almost half of Xiaomi's 9.5 million units in the same period. The latter accounted for 29% of the Indian market. The launch of the Redmi Note 10 series played an important role in this.

At the same time, vivo has grown rapidly in the Indian market, greatly narrowing the gap with Samsung Electronics. In the second quarter, vivo shipped 5.4 million units, accounting for 17% of the market share. OPPO's sub-brand Realme shipped 4.9 million units, with sales increasing by 181% year-on-year and a market share of 15%. OPPO shipped 3.8 million units, with a market share of 12%.

BusinessKorea quoted an industry insider as saying: "Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi and Vivo have launched a price war with Samsung Electronics and Apple, and their sales are rising." "If this trend continues, Vivo will soon surpass Samsung in the Indian smartphone market."

In Russia, Samsung's title of No. 1 market share has been given to Xiaomi. According to the Russian Satellite Network, Xiaomi ranked first in the Russian smartphone market with a market share of 31.2% in June. Samsung's market share in June was 29.8%, falling from first place in May to second place. Apple (14.5%), Realme (4.6%), and Poco (3.8%) ranked third, fourth, and fifth respectively.

In terms of the global market, Samsung Electronics ranked first with a 19% market share in the second quarter of this year. Xiaomi ranked second with a 17% market share, surpassing Apple's 14%. Its shipments increased by 83% year-on-year, setting a record high.
