With the new MusicKit API, developers will be able to offer Apple Music trials and earn rewards for new subscribers through the referral program starting with iOS 15. Developer Tim Isenman highlighted the news on Twitter, and Apple also previewed it during the "Meet MusicKit for Swift" session at WWDC21.
According to Apple engineer Joel Lope Da Silva, this new "MusicKit accelerates the integration of your app with the Apple Music APIs, our set of server-side APIs for accessing Apple Music's diverse catalog content, making it easier for you to build apps bundled with Apple Music."
With this MusicKit API, developers will be able to offer users a free trial of Apple Music in their apps, and also provide a customized main message for users to try out the music streaming service.
The MusicKit API will also reward developers when users subscribe to Apple Music. The program already existed, but now it is more integrated with third-party apps.
