In an interview about Apple's work and progress in the health space, Kevin Lynch, the company's vice president of technology, hinted that Apple might one day use sensor fusion with AirPods to provide more health data to customers.

Currently, both the iPhone and Apple Watch use various sensors to independently provide health data and information to users. In addition, Apple also uses sensor fusion to combine sensor data on the Apple Watch and ‌iPhone‌ to provide users with more comprehensive health information. In an interview with TechCrunch, Lynch hinted that Apple may add ‌AirPods‌ to the sensor fusion process to provide Apple users with more health data.

Lynch's suggestion is consistent with a report from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has said that Apple is indeed planning to introduce health tracking to ‌AirPods‌. More recently, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the second-generation AirPods Pro, due to be released next year, will include "the latest motion sensors with a focus on health tracking."

In a follow-up interview, Lynch also discussed new health features in iOS 15, such as fitness tracking and walking stabilization.
