According to Jiwei.com, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) of South Korea will launch an intellectual property (IP) support program to promote the development of the system semiconductor industry.
etnews reported that the plan involves global semiconductor IP companies such as Synopsys and ARM, and is aimed at helping Korean fabless companies and design companies. In addition, South Korea will also provide financial support to Korean fabless companies so that they can use the IP of Korean IP companies at a low cost.
It is reported that MOTIE held a launching ceremony and meeting for the above project at the System Semiconductor Design Support Center in Pangyo last Tuesday. In order to reduce the burden of using IP in the system semiconductor industry, MOTIE has formulated various plans.
For example, Synopsys will provide IP to Korean fabless companies at a discount through the System Semiconductor Design Support Center, and the center will provide an additional 10% discount on top of the Synopsys discount. An official from MOTIE said, "Korean fabless companies will be able to use Synopsys' IP at a very low price."
ARM plans to work with Korean design companies to build a consulting platform so that Korean fabless companies and design companies can use ARM's IP to create the best products.
In addition, MOTIE also plans to allow Korean fabless companies to enjoy discounts of up to 50% when using IP from local manufacturers such as OPENEDGES Technology.
