According to seekingalpha, John Vinh, an analyst at Wall Street investment bank Keybanc, said that Qualcomm has obtained a license to export 4G chips to Huawei.

On November 10, according to 36Kr, a source close to Huawei said that Qualcomm has obtained permission to supply Huawei. If true, this also means that Qualcomm has become another heavyweight semiconductor company after AMD, Intel, TSMC, Sony, and OmniVision Technologies to obtain Huawei's chip supply license.

On the afternoon of November 4th, local time in the eastern United States, Qualcomm held a fourth-quarter earnings conference call. The company's CEO Mollenkopf confirmed that Qualcomm's fourth-quarter revenue covered the $1.8 billion in patent fees agreed with Huawei between March and June. Mollenkopf also explained that Qualcomm was applying for a supply license to Huawei, but it had not yet been approved.

Previously, Huawei Chairman Guo Ping revealed in a public speech that Huawei is willing to use Qualcomm chips if the US allows it.

It is worth noting that Qualcomm may obtain a license to export 4G chips to Huawei, not 5G. This is consistent with a previous report by the Financial Times. According to a report by the Financial Times at the end of October, people attending the US briefing said that the US said that as long as the chips are not used in Huawei's 5G business, the US will allow more and more chip companies to provide components to Huawei.
