Although 5G packages have seen price cuts before, many people still say they can’t afford them. The three major operators cannot be unaware of this pain point. However, the cost of building a network is too high, and there are also electricity bills....

As the packages of the three major operators are not affordable enough, virtual operators have taken the lead in igniting the price war in the 5G market. It is reported that Quanmin Youda (a mobile communication service brand launched by Guangdong Evergrande Hetong Technology Co., Ltd.), a virtual operator claiming to be the "fourth largest private operator", has launched a 5G package with a monthly rent of only 9 yuan, which is not only much lower than the 5G packages of the three major operators, but also lower than most 4G packages on the market.

With the advancement of "speeding up and reducing fees", virtual operators have gradually lost their price advantage in 4G packages. Taking the lead in launching a price war for 5G packages can help virtual operators recover some of their decline.

According to the official information, the monthly rent for the Quanmin Youda Big Mac-Easy Edition 5G package is 9 yuan. The package does not include traffic. The traffic fee outside the package is 1.25 yuan per GB. This package is officially called "the cheapest 5G package in the entire network"; the monthly rent for the Big Mac-Inclusive Edition 5G package is 29 yuan, and the package includes 10GB of traffic.

The 9-yuan 5G package is not the only "low-price card" played by Quanmin Youda. In the first half of this year, Quanmin Youda also launched a new policy for premium numbers. Users only need to apply for a 19-yuan monthly package to get a premium number in the 167 area.

In addition, Quanmin Youda is not the only virtual operator that adopts an aggressive low-price strategy for 5G packages. Previously, Fenxiang Communications also launched a 5G package with unlimited speed and quantity for a monthly rent of 70 yuan, but 70 yuan can only buy the 5G packages of the three major operators that include 10G of traffic.

Some industry insiders bluntly stated that virtual operators essentially resell traffic, voice and other resources sold to them by basic operators to individual users. Although they do not have to invest in maintenance costs for base stations and other facilities, they still need to pay settlement fees to basic operators. Too low 5G package rates can help attract users, but are not conducive to profitability, and may even fail to cover costs.
