Apple iPad Air 4 debuted the A14 Bionic chip, becoming the first tablet device in the industry to be equipped with a 5nm processor. Not surprisingly, the iPhone 12 series will also use Apple's A14 Bionic chip and is expected to debut in October.

The Huawei Mate 40 series is expected to debut at the same time as the iPhone 12, and it will be the first to launch the Kirin 9000 chip.

On September 17, according to foreign media reports, the Kirin 9000 chip, the first commercial chip of Huawei Mate 40 Pro, will be the industry's first 5nm 5G Soc. Unlike Apple's A14 Bionic chip, the Kirin 9000 directly integrates the 5G baseband into the chip.

The previous generation Kirin 990 5G was the first to integrate a 5G baseband, which is an integrated 5G Soc chip of AP (application processor) + BP (baseband). It is the industry's first commercial 5G Soc chip.

Compared with the two-chip solution of the external 5G baseband, Kirin 5G Soc saves the space of one chip. For the mobile phone body where every inch of space is valuable, the space saved by SoC can be used to stack more powerful devices or functions.

It is worth noting that this may be the last generation of Kirin flagship Soc manufactured by TSMC. Both the CPU and GPU performance have been greatly improved compared to the previous generation Kirin 990 5G.

Huawei Consumer Business CEO Richard Yu previously revealed that Kirin 9000 will have stronger 5G capabilities, AI processing capabilities, more powerful NPU and GPU. Wait a little longer for the new Mate flagship, and everything will arrive as expected.
