According to display analyst Ross Young and whistleblower Jon Prosser, Apple may delay the release of the iPhone 12 Pro or cancel the feature altogether due to supply chain issues with 120Hz screens.
Young said in a tweet that despite being able to obtain a 120Hz panel, Apple still faces supply chain issues, namely the 120Hz display driver IC for the iPhone 12 Pro. As a result, Apple will have to postpone the release of the iPhone 12 Pro to wait for the right driver IC, or will choose to release the iPhone 12 Pro without a 120Hz screen. To avoid this delay, Young believes that Apple will choose a standard 60Hz screen on the iPhone 12 Pro.
Young speculates that the problems facing the iPhone 12 Pro may be because 120Hz was not part of the original plan for the device. Apple confirmed in July that this year's iPhone is expected to be released later than in previous years.
The report also pointed out that Apple is still testing the 120Hz ProMotion feature for the iPhone 12 Pro. There have been many reports about the possible 120Hz screen, and this feature may be exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. However, even if it supports 120Hz, it will not be able to use Samsung's new generation of LTPO-OLED screens. This screen will be temporarily exclusive to the Galaxy Note 20 and will not be sold to Apple and other suppliers.
