TriLumina, a developer of VCSEL technology (vertical cavity surface emitting laser) for automotive, consumer and industrial ToF (time of flight) and 3D sensing applications, announced that it has completed all the tests required for AEC-Q102 Grade 1 operation, which means that its semiconductor lasers can operate reliably at temperatures between -40 and 125 degrees Celsius.

The Automotive Electronics Council (AEC) has set prerequisites that Tier 1 automotive electronics manufacturers must accept. One is to meet the AEC-Q reliability standard, and the other is to meet the IATF 16949 quality management system standard. Automotive integrated circuit reliability testing, referred to as AEC-Q, can be divided into several subcategories, among which the AEC-Q102 (discrete optoelectronics) standard is applicable to TriLumina VCSEL products.

TriLumina's patented back-emitting VCSEL arrays can be equipped with integrated microlenses for solid-state flash lidar, ToF lidar, scanning lidar and automotive cockpit systems, and can maintain full performance between -40 and 125 degrees Celsius without active cooling.

“Our products are engineered to operate reliably under very stringent automotive operating conditions and over a wide temperature range,” said Brian Wong, president and CEO of TriLumina. The devices are AEC-Q102 Grade 1 qualified, indicating they are robust for consumer and industrial applications, meeting the quality requirements of these market segments.
