According to a report from Reference News on August 16, citing the website of South Korea's JoongAng Ilbo, Samsung Electronics plans to launch three new 5G smartphones in South Korea before next month. They are the Galaxy Note10 scheduled to be launched on August 23, the Galaxy Fold scheduled to be launched in mid-September, and the popular model Galaxy A90.
According to the latest report, Galaxy Fold has attracted the most attention among the three models. Samsung originally planned to launch this phone in April this year, but the official launch of this device was delayed by more than 5 months due to factors such as hinge design. Earlier, there was news that the improved Samsung Galaxy Fold has completed testing and is expected to enter large-scale mass production soon.
At the same time, the report also pointed out that Huawei's foldable screen mobile phone Mate X is expected to be launched this fall. At the same time, Korean media believes that Huawei's foldable phone Mate X will be the only competitor to Samsung Galaxy Fold. It is worth noting that Huawei's He Gang posted a photo on Weibo yesterday. The device certification at the end of his Weibo post is Huawei Mate X 5G, which may also imply that Huawei Mate X 5G version has been officially mass-produced.
In addition, LG Electronics, also a Korean technology company, also plans to release an upgraded version of its own 5G smartphone V50 ThinQ, the V50S ThinQ, in September.
South Korean media said that starting from September, global smartphone manufacturers such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Huawei, and Apple will launch new products one after another, with the aim of driving market demand from LTE to 5G to stimulate consumer demand for smartphones. Some industry insiders also said that various mobile phone manufacturers will engage in a head-on confrontation around 5G technology and foldable phones in the future. However, Apple is not included, because Apple does not seem to intend to follow the footsteps of its competitors and launch 5G devices immediately. The new iPhone expected to be launched this fall will not support 5G.
Some market research institutions have also made predictions: the global smartphone market is expected to continue to experience negative growth this year. However, starting from the beginning of next year, as the demand for 5G smartphones officially emerges, the smartphone market is expected to gradually resume its growth trend.
