5G mmWave standalone networking enables mobile operators and Internet service providers to more flexibly deploy fixed Internet access services using wireless fiber technology
SAN DIEGO/SHANGHAI, Sept. 7, 2022 – Under the guidance of the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, and in support of the group’s 5G mmWave test plan, Qualcomm Technologies and ZTE Corporation have successfully achieved the world’s fastest 5G mmWave standalone interoperability test connection, achieving stunning results in two scenarios: the test achieved a downlink peak download rate of nearly 7Gbps and an uplink peak rate of 2.1Gbps. 5G mmWave standalone networking supports the deployment of 5G mmWave networks and terminals without the use of LTE or Sub-6GHz spectrum anchors, which enables operators to more flexibly provide multi-gigabit speeds and ultra-low latency wireless fiber broadband access to personal and commercial users. The mmWave standalone networking deployment mode without anchors can also support the deployment of green fixed wireless access networks in all usage scenarios.
Qualcomm Technologies and ZTE achieved a peak downlink rate of nearly 7Gbps in a 5G mmWave standalone network based on the 26GHz (n258) frequency band using the DDDSU frame structure. The two parties achieved an uplink rate of 2.1Gbps using the DSUUU frame structure. In this test, Qualcomm Technologies connected a mobile test platform equipped with a Snapdragon X70 5G modem and RF system to ZTE infrastructure located in ZTE's Shanghai laboratory and achieved this important milestone based on 4x200MHz downlink bandwidth and 2x200MHz uplink bandwidth.
“We are honored to achieve this milestone with ZTE, which is an important step in promoting the evolution and future commercialization of 5G mmWave independent networking,” said Dejia Maddja, senior vice president and general manager of cellular modem and infrastructure business at Qualcomm Technologies. “This test demonstrates the faster peak rates, more available connections, lower latency and higher throughput brought by wireless fiber, highlighting its potential to enhance consumer experience and promote digital transformation.”
