June 4, 2024 – MediaTek COMPUTEX showcases advanced AI technologies and innovative applications in a wide range of fields. Vice Chairman and CEO Dr. Li-Hsing Tsai delivered a keynote speech on June 4, talking about how MediaTek’s technology can enable the ubiquitous AI era and continue to change mobile communications, transportation, smart homes, enterprises and industrial environments. At this exhibition, MediaTek launched two chip products, the Kompanio 838 mobile computing chip for high-end Chromebooks, and the Pentonic 800 smart TV chip for 4K high-end smart TVs and display devices. Both products have excellent performance and AI computing capabilities.

MediaTek Kompanio 838, empowering productivity, learning and creativity
The MediaTek Kompanio 838 mobile computing chip is equipped with an efficient eight-core CPU, with excellent performance and multi-tasking capabilities, providing all-day battery life for thin and light Chromebook products. Kompanio 838 integrates the AI processor NPU 650, which supports the AI enhancements required by Chromebook products with high energy efficiency, improving user interaction and multimedia experience. Kompanio 838 supports DDR4 and LPDDR4X memory to meet the wider product design needs of device manufacturers. Compared with the previous generation, the memory bandwidth of Kompanio 838 has doubled, providing higher data throughput.
The chip has a built-in Imagiq 7 series ISP image processor, which provides high-quality HDR imaging effects, supports dual cameras and low-light shooting functions, and can provide clear image quality in different lighting environments.
Kompanio 838 supports AV1 hardware video decoding, helping users to seamlessly and quickly transmit 4K streaming content. In addition, the chip supports dual 4K displays, providing users with more content display space. Kompanio 838 also supports MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E wireless connection technologies, which can bring Chromebooks up to 1.9 Gbps network connection speeds, while supporting 2x2 antennas and WPA 3, providing more stable and reliable connections and security.

MediaTek Pentonic 800, advanced AI technology to support powerful image enhancement
MediaTek Pentonic 800 smart TV chips provide outstanding video, audio and gaming experiences. The platform is suitable for a variety of 4K display devices, including smart TVs, smart monitors, commercial displays and other large-screen applications. Compared with the previous generation, the performance of the built-in AI processor of Pentonic 800 has been improved by 50%, and the memory bandwidth usage can be reduced by up to 60%. The powerful AI processor supports a variety of AI picture quality enhancement technologies, including AI super resolution (AI-SR 3.0), AI-Contrast 2.0, AI scene recognition picture quality monitoring (AI-Picture Quality Scene Recognition 2.0+) and AI object recognition picture quality enhancement (AI-Picture Quality Object Recognition 2.5+). These technologies significantly enhance the picture quality of display devices, reduce picture noise, and provide a variety of enhancements for streaming and gaming. To further optimize the gaming experience, Pentonic 800 supports variable refresh rate (VRR) of 4K or 2K 165Hz.
The hardware video decoding engine of Pentonic 800 supports mainstream formats such as HEVC, AV1, AVS3 High Profile and VVC (H.266), providing high-quality 4K video playback. The chip also supports MEMC, TCON and high-resolution audio solutions. Equipment manufacturers can flexibly integrate MediaTek Filogic Wi-Fi wireless connection solutions to provide high-speed, low-latency and reliable network connections. In addition, the Filogic Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combination solution provides seamless connection between screens and peripherals (including game controllers and wireless headphones).
