Recently, Intel and its partners successfully held a unique theme event entitled "Opening the School to Welcome the Olympics, Sharing the Classroom Across the Thousand Miles". At the theme event, more than 100,000 students from 100 schools learned about the Olympics through a series of colorful classroom activities in a combination of online and offline forms, listened to the stories of Olympic athletes fighting on the field, and had the honor of communicating with Olympic champion Wu Jingyu "closely" to learn her Olympic spirit of not admitting defeat and striving for the first place. Hou Kun, a member of the International Olympic Committee's Culture and Olympic Heritage Committee, also came to the theme event site and called on students to learn Olympic knowledge, understand Olympic culture, plant curiosity, creativity and fighting spirit in their hearts, and pursue their dreams unremittingly. Tokyo Olympic champion Sun Mengya also cheered for the students through videos. More than 2,000 classrooms on the online side were connected to the interactive live classroom at the same time. This theme event promoted the Olympic spirit through smart education and ignited the Olympic passion of young people.
Wu Jingyu, two-time Taekwondo Olympic champion, the first "Grand Slam" player in the history of world Taekwondo, and Guinness record holder, told her Olympic story at the event. In 2017, Wu Jingyu, as a mother, chose to return to the sports field despite her age and physical disadvantage. With her unremitting efforts, she got a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, becoming the first athlete in the history of world Taekwondo to participate in the Olympics four times. She proudly told all the students: "When you work hard to do something, you either get it or learn it. So I think that is the best Wu Jingyu."
Wu Jingyu's motivational speech received warm applause from the audience and deeply touched the students from nearly 100 schools across the country who were connected remotely. Chen Hongyang, a country girl from Daliangshan, Sichuan, was one of them. This country girl who has loved sports since childhood and once won the second place in the school-level women's high jump, watched this year's Summer Olympics, and was inspired by the spirit of the Olympic athletes. She hoped that she could become such an athlete. Facing the students from hundreds of schools, she bravely expressed her dream, "I have an Olympic dream, and I will stick to it. Once I set a goal, I will never give up easily!"
Wang Rui, Intel's global vice president and general manager of China, said: "I think this is a very meaningful event, because in this 'Olympic' class, students from all over the country can interact and communicate with Olympic champions and athletes through interactive live classes. Through such a smart education platform, students can see role models for learning, which inspires everyone to pursue their dreams and work hard. I hope they can establish a lofty pursuit of being willing to explore the unknown and create meaning and value for society. The Olympic motto is 'higher, faster, stronger, more united'. As a technology company, we are also constantly innovating, constantly challenging ourselves, and working with partners to create stronger and faster products. We hope to use this as a starting point and continue to use such innovative smart education forms to allow more children to participate, pass on the Olympic spirit, and make the spirit of hard work and innovation endless."
Olympic education is an important part of the Olympic Games and an important aspect of the successful hosting of the Olympic Games. Intel will continue to leverage its technological innovation and work with partners to promote Olympic education, popularize Olympic knowledge to more students with higher levels of informatization and intelligence, and pass on the rich Olympic spirit and concepts through smart education.
