Imagination Technologies has announced that Realtek has licensed the IMG B-Series BXE-4-32 graphics processing unit (GPU) for integration into its latest system-on-chip (SoC) for the mass-market digital television (DTV). This collaboration continues the long-standing relationship between the two companies.
The BXE-4-32 was chosen because it represents the most area-efficient 4PPC GPU IP on the market today (PPC is pixels per clock cycle), with the added benefits of the B-series multicore architecture, including advanced features such as cache configurability. The collaboration between Imagination and Realtek on BXE further demonstrates that this core is an ideal solution for next-generation DTV platforms, which can deliver higher resolution performance, lower silicon cost and lower bandwidth requirements.
BXE also features Imagination’s IMGIC technology, the most advanced image compression technology. IMGIC provides real-time image compression at multiple quality levels without increasing chip area. This feature enables DTV platforms with integrated BXE-4-32 GPU to configure and optimize image quality while significantly reducing system bandwidth for an ultra-responsive user experience.
