SiC technology seems to have become
a standard feature of
NIO's
new models.
NIO
's executive flagship model ET9, released in December last year, is equipped with
NIO
's self-developed and self-produced 1200V SiC power module, as well as 46105 large cylindrical cells and battery packs for 900V. The energy density of a single cell is as high as 292Wh/kg, and the charging efficiency reaches 5C, which means that it can be charged for 5 minutes and has a range of 255 kilometers.
Recently, NIO officially released another model equipped with SiC technology, which is the first model of its new brand Ledao, the L60. It is reported that Ledao adopts 900V high-voltage architecture throughout the whole area, including electric drive system, heat pump air conditioner, auxiliary heater (PTC), on-board charger (OBC), DC voltage converter (DC-DC), all of which are 900V and above. Among them, the main electric drive and heat pump air conditioner systems all use the latest generation of SiC technology.
Thanks to the use of NIO's fully self-developed 900V SiC main electric drive system, the Ledao L60 has a comprehensive efficiency of 92.3% under CLTC conditions and a power volume density of 8kW/L. Both indicators are at the forefront of the industry.
In order to ensure the continuous and stable supply of automotive SiC power modules, NIO signed a production and supply agreement for SiC module products with Xinlian Integration in January this year. According to the agreement signed by both parties, Xinlian Integration will become the production supplier of NIO's first self-developed 1200V SiC module, which will be used in NIO's 900V high-voltage pure electric platform.
The cooperation between the two parties soon made new progress. In March of this year, as a phased result of the cooperation between the two parties, NIO's self-developed SiC module sample C officially rolled off the production line, which means that the product is close to mass production.
As SiC technology is accelerating its adoption in cars, in addition to NIO, Xiaomi, BYD and other manufacturers have also recently released new SiC models. Among them, Xiaomi's first car SU7 series uses Xiaomi's self-developed 800V SiC high-voltage platform with a maximum voltage of 871V. It is said that Xiaomi SU7 supports a range of 200 kilometers after charging for 5 minutes and a range of 510 kilometers after charging for 15 minutes.
BYD recently released the new generation e-platform 3.0 Evo and the first model of the Hiace 07EV. The Hiace 07EV is equipped with a high-efficiency 12-in-1 intelligent electric drive system, and the entire series is equipped with 1200V SiC electronic control. In terms of SiC modules, the e-platform 3.0 Evo uses laminated laser welding technology to replace the traditional bolt connection process. The laminated laser welded SiC power module has greatly reduced the stray inductance by 75%, the highest efficiency of the electronic control has reached 99.86%, and the overcurrent capacity has increased by 10%, achieving a comprehensive leap in the performance of the SiC power module.
In the future, we expect to see more car companies release SiC models, and with the continuous upgrading and iteration of automotive SiC technology, related models will continue to break through the "ceiling" in terms of performance.
