At the recently opened Shanghai Auto Show, many traditional automakers brought new pure electric vehicles, including the BMW iX . According to recent overseas media reports, BMW is developing batteries for electric vehicles, plans to launch its first " solid - state battery" in 2025, and plans to equip some mass-produced models with the solid-state battery starting in 2030.
Details about BMW's solid-state battery have been very limited, but there are reports that the energy density of solid-state batteries will be significantly higher than the lithium battery packs commonly used in current models, which means that solid-state batteries can store more power in the same volume and the vehicle's range will be longer under the same test environment. Other reports show that the safety of the new battery is also expected to be improved.
BMW currently has pure electric models such as iX3, iX, and i4. According to the plan exposed earlier, BMW will also launch several new pure electric models before 2030. By then, at least 50% of BMW's global sales will come from electric vehicles.
