Share and discuss: How to quickly determine whether a domestic chip is truly self-developed or just a sham? [Copy link]

What do the front-line engineers of the forum think of this judgment method?

Judging by looking at the datasheet:

1. If the data sheet is only in Chinese, it is 100% self-developed and only sold in China , such as STC, power chip, driver chip, etc.

2. If the data sheet is only available in English, 80% of them are purchased IP cores . The data sheet is an English document provided by the IP supplier. After they purchase the IP, the designers add or remove peripherals and IO ports around the IP core.

3. If the data sheet has both Chinese and English versions, this is something that only powerful domestic chip companies can do. How many manufacturers have you noticed? Welcome to share your experience~

4. If the data sheet contains traditional Chinese characters, it is 100% designed by Taiwan Brothers and packaged in China.

5. If the data sheet is not public, 100% reverse engineer other people's chips and sell them secretly, such as many CPLDs, network card chips, etc.

This analysis makes sense. I usually check the official website and some of them are not made in China. However, the first point may not be correct.   Details Published on 2022-10-29 05:51

Haha, this analysis makes a lot of sense. I usually go to the official website and I can tell at a glance that some of the products are not purely domestically produced.

The first one is not necessarily true. There are many domestic chips that only have Chinese data sheets, but they are reverse engineered. This is quite common in power supply and some peripheral chips, such as some switching power supply chips, lithium battery charging chips, etc. You can tell from their manuals that they are reverse engineered. The most "famous" one is the MAX232 chip, which is reversed by many MAXIM. There are many counterfeit manufacturers, and there are more fakes than real ones in the supporting market, and even the data sheets are fake.
