Small Size, High Precision Current Sense Amplifier

Maxim introduces the MAX9634, the latest member of its industry-leading high-side current-sense amplifier (CSA) family. Designed for space-constrained portable applications, the MAX9634 measures only 1mm² and offers the industry's smallest size, best performance, and lowest power consumption. These outstanding features, combined with a wide (1.6V to 28V) input voltage range, make the MAX9634 ideal for battery -powered devices such as smartphones, digital cameras, PDAs, MP3 cameras, and notebook computers.

The MAX9634 is optimized for compact designs that require precise monitoring. The device features the industry's lowest 1µA quiescent current (IQ), which effectively extends battery life. The device is available in the industry's smallest package—a tiny 1mm x 1mm x 0.6mm, 4-bump UCSP, which is only 1/9 the size of a SOT23 packaged device. The MAX9634 delivers excellent performance while taking advantage of its small package size. The device features an extremely low ±250µV (max) VOS and 0.5% (max) gain error. This high accuracy simplifies design by eliminating the need to worry about error tolerance under worst-case operating conditions.

The MAX9634 operates over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range and is available in 4-bump UCSP and 6-pin SOT23 packages.

Op amp design tips for analog front ends
High-speed conversion systems, especially those in the telecommunications field, allow the analog-to-digital converter (ADC) input signal to be AC-coupled (by using transformers, capacitors, or a combination of both). But for the test and measurement industry, the front-end design is not so simple because this app

Difference Between Amplifier and Comparator
1. The main difference between amplifiers and comparators is the closed-loop characteristics Most amplifiers work in a closed loop state, so they are required not to self-excite after closing the loop. Most comparators work in an open loop state and pursue speed. For low frequencies, amplifiers can completely replac

Class D amplifier circuit composed of 555
IC555 and R1, R2, C1 form a 100KHz controllable multivibrator with a duty cycle of 50%. The audio signal is input to the control terminal 5 pin, and the 3 pin gets a pulse signal whose pulse width is proportional to the input signal amplitude. After L and C3 modulation and filtering, it drives the speaker. Class D am

Solution design based on MAX4992 0-70V current sense amplifier
Maxim's MAX921 is an input unidirectional 49Ω current-sense amplifier (CSA) with an input range from 0V to 70V and a common-mode range as low as 42V and as high as +80V. With low input current protection of ±0.5µV (double) and gain gain of ±0.05% (additional), the MAX49921 package is ideal for current measurements. Th

Improving Noise Performance of Wideband Fully Differential Amplifiers Using Active Matching Circuits
Since their first introduction in 1999, single-ended-to-differential applications of wideband fully differential amplifiers (FDAs) have often used a resistor to ground as part of the input matching circuit, at the expense of higher input-referred noise voltage. If that resistor could be removed and the input impedance

High-Side Current Sensing: Difference Amplifier vs. Current Sense Amplifier
In many applications such as motor control, solenoid control, and power management (such as DC-DC converters and battery monitoring), high-precision high-side current sensing is required. In such applications, monitoring the high-side current rather than the return current can improve diagnostic capabilities, such as
