A new report suggests that Microsoft is planning to add a new feature to its upcoming Windows Phone mobile operating system. The new feature will allow built-in text message backup. The report says that on the first rollout of Windows Phone 8 devices, users will be prompted to use a Microsoft account to keep their data synced.

This prompt will also bring up another dialog box that allows users to backup settings and sync application lists, text messages, photos, and videos.

However, Microsoft has not yet officially announced whether it plans to add SMS backup functionality to Windows Phone 8.
