TI launches highly integrated, low-cost RF range extender

Texas Instruments (TI) announced the launch of a highly integrated, low-cost radio frequency (RF) range extender for low-power wireless applications from 850 to 950 MHz to fully meet the needs of wireless sensor networks, automatic meter reading (AMR), wireless industrial control, consumer and audio systems. The single-chip CC1190 integrates power amplifiers (PA), low-noise amplifiers (LNA), switches and RF matching functions, eliminating the need for expensive discrete components. It can not only significantly simplify design layout, shorten test time, improve RF performance, but also significantly reduce overall board space. For more product details, please visit: http://focus.ti.com.cn/cn/docs/prod/folders/print/cc1190.html.

The CC1190 works with TI's CC1101 sub-1 GHz transceiver and CC430 or CC1110 system-on-chip. The CC1190+CC1101 solution can achieve up to 149 dB link budget. Customers can extend the operating range of their existing industrial sensors or utility energy meters without repeaters or routers, thereby reducing overall system costs.

Key Features and Benefits

Improved link budget through higher output power through power amplifiers and improved receiver sensitivity through low-noise LNAs;

Highly integrated power amplifier, low noise amplifier, switch and RF matching functions can significantly shorten product design cycle;

Ability to seamlessly interface with TI’s sub-1 GHz low-power RF devices;

Up to 27 dBm (0.5 W) output power;

Typical sensitivity can be increased by 6 dB with CC11xx and CC430;

TI provides industry-leading hardware, best-in-class software, tools, application knowledge and global technical support to help low-power RF designers differentiate their wireless designs.

CC1190 packaging and availability

The CC1190 is available now in a ROHS-compliant 4-mm x 4-mm QFN-16 package from TI and its authorized distributors.

The CC1190 standalone evaluation kit is available now, and an integrated board with the transceiver and CC1190 will be available in the second quarter of 2010.
