The Actel SmartFusion™ Development Kit is equipped with a fully functional development board that allows users to try out the world's only FPGA device with an ARM® Cortex™-M3 hard-core processor and programmable analog resources. The device includes on-chip flash and on-chip SRAM memory, as well as additional off-chip memory. The board can communicate via Ethernet and HyperTerminal. It also includes LEDs, switches, OLEDs, and rich analog test functions including voltage rail monitoring, current POT, temperature diodes, and voltage sweeps using active bipolar prescalers (ABPS). Networking interfaces include Ethernet PHY, EtherCAT, CAN, UART, and RS485.

The tool suite is supported by the Actel Libero® Integrated Design Environment (IDE), which includes the Eclipse-based SoftConsole GNU software IDE. Users can also use free evaluation versions or fully licensed versions of Keil™ or IAR Systems® compilers. A quick start card and user guide walk users through the various options for setting up the software, downloading and licensing.
