The IOTA Foundation, a non-profit organization providing the world’s first scalable, lossless and fully decentralized distributed ledger technology, is working with STMicroelectronics to create a new level of powerful, seamless and cost-effective IoT access capabilities. The
cornerstone of this collaboration is the integration of the IOTA Tangle, a free peer-to-peer technology solution, into ST’s STM32Cube expansion software for the industry-leading STM32 32-bit MCU ecosystem, the X-CUBE-IOTA1.
This relationship will provide the ST user community with IoT integration capabilities, enabling customers to easily and quickly create and build new IoT solutions for single or multiple devices. Equally important, developers can work while enjoying the ability to develop systems, environments, products and services through IOTA capabilities, as well as the powerful features of the Tangle’s distributed, highly scalable peer-to-peer network and senseless structure.
“By enabling IOTA functionality for the STM32Cube software technology with the X-CUBE-IOTA1 expansion software, developers can now easily include IOTA features and functionality in their IoT devices and create valuable applications using the STM32 open development environment, which combines the STM32 32-bit microcontroller family,” said Alessandro Cremonesi, Vice President of System Research and Applications at STMicroelectronics. IoT-
enhanced solutions will provide technologies including sensing, power management, connectivity and audio for key industries such as energy and logistics. Developers using STM32 will be able to transmit, buy and sell relevant data through embedded technologies such as Bluetooth LE at low cost and provide simple, powerful solutions.
“With specialized hardware playing an important role in the IoT market, working with partners such as ST can enhance the role of IoT as an innovation facilitator,” said Holger Köther, Director of Partner Management at the IOTA Foundation. “The IOTA Foundation has the opportunity to work with enterprise leaders such as ST to extend our mission beyond blockchain by partnering with world-leading technology companies to launch the world’s first scalable, sensorless and fully decentralized DLT platform.”
