According to news on June 6, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry today released the revised "Semiconductor and Digital Industry Strategy", proposing that by 2030, Japan's domestic semiconductor industry sales will exceed 15 trillion yen (IT House Note: currently about 763.5 billion yen) Yuan RMB).


Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry stated that since the formulation of the semiconductor and digital industry strategy in June 2021, the international situation has been changing every moment. In addition to the increasing importance of dealing with economic security risks, digitalization and greening, artificial intelligence, especially generative AI, has attracted much attention in recent years as a new tool to improve productivity, and its application in various fields is advancing rapidly. In view of these changes, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has launched this revised version of the “Semiconductor and Digital Industry Strategy”.

The revised draft shows that in 2020, Japan's domestic semiconductor industry sales will be 5 trillion yen (currently approximately 254.5 billion yuan). To ensure a stable supply of semiconductors, Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry hopes to triple this number to 15 trillion yen in 2030. For various subdivisions such as advanced computing chips and advanced storage chips, the revised draft also makes clear arrangements, including promoting next-generation technology goals such as mass production of 2nm computing chips and high performance of NAND memory.


Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry also stated that the revised strategy aims to further strengthen Japan's ability to develop and produce cutting-edge semiconductor products that are critical to economic security and the development of advanced technologies such as generative AI.
