Recently, in order to assess the impact of Sino-US trade frictions and "decoupling" on major US industries, SIA (Semiconductor Industry Association) commissioned and sponsored the US Chamber of Commerce and Rhodium Group to conduct an independent study. The report publicly expressed concerns about "excessive US export controls on China."

The report concludes that decoupling from China in the semiconductor industry would cause U.S. semiconductor companies to lose up to $124 billion in revenue, lead to cuts of $12 billion and $13 billion in R&D and capital expenditures, respectively, and result in the loss of more than 100,000 jobs in the U.S. semiconductor industry.

On February 17th local time, at the invitation of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, SIA President and CEO John Neuffer attended an online report release conference held by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Neuffer pointed out that China is the largest and fastest growing market for the semiconductor industry. Excessively broad unilateral export control restrictions may cause losses to the US semiconductor industry.

Neuffer said that the long-term solution for the United States to deal with competition from China should focus on making increasing federal R&D investment in the semiconductor industry a priority. The common goal of the semiconductor industry between China and the United States is to build and maintain an open ecosystem to promote industry innovation and development, and this goal requires more dialogue and communication between the two sides.
