SiFive announced today that it has raised $61 million from investors including SK Hynix and Saudi Aramco.

The company said its existing investors - which include venture capital arms from Intel Corp, Qualcomm Inc and Western Digital Corp - have raised more than $185 million since its founding in 2015.

SiFive is working hard to develop IP based on the RISC-V architecture.

The RISC-V ecosystem aims to challenge Arm, and multiple media reports have said SoftBank is in talks with U.S. chip supplier Nvidia for a potential sale of Arm.

SiFive is a commercial entity separate from the Foundation, which oversees the open source RISC-V, although several of SiFive's founders are co-creators of the technology and are also involved with the foundation.

The foundation said last year it was moving its headquarters to Switzerland after some of the organization’s foreign members expressed concerns about potential U.S. trade restrictions.
