  • This verification covers single and multiple precoding matrix indicator test cases, mainly for 16/32 channel transmitters operating in frequency division duplex and time division duplex frequency bands

  • The first batch of test cases for the 3GPP Release 17 enhanced energy saving standard cover scenarios such as reduced network paging and extended discontinuous reception cycles of RedCap devices

  • Keysight test cases successfully passed verification at the 77th meeting of the Conformance Protocol Working Group in Malaga, Spain

Keysight Technologies' first batch of 3GPP Rel-16 5G NR single and multiple precoding matrix indicator (PMI) test cases approved for testing operating in frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) bands 16/32 channel transmitter. This batch of test cases was verified at the 77th meeting of the Global Certification Forum (GCF) Conformance Agreement Working Group (CAG) hosted by Keysight Technology in Malaga, Spain in January, and is mainly used for Keysight Technology 5G network emulation consistency Sex test platform (TP168).

Networks based on the 5G NR standard can support MIMO multi-antenna technology, which can improve spectrum efficiency and enhance communication performance. To implement multi-antenna systems, transmitters often use enhanced precoding technology to map data to different transmit antennas. This enhanced precoding technology will select the best precoding from several precoding options based on the PMI codebook value reported by the terminal and the channel measurement results.

Several new test cases have been added to the 3GPP Rel-16 standard to verify device performance in multi-antenna systems. These new tests require significant fading resources to simulate the connection between a 16/32 channel transmitter and a user equipment (UE) with 2/4 receivers. The Keysight S8705A RF/RRM test solution was the first to be validated with these new test cases.

Keysight has also achieved the following results to support Rel-17 enhanced power-saving features and RedCap features:

  • Through test case verification, it is confirmed that UE can reduce the number of interactions between the device and the network and extend the battery life of the device using the S8705A RF/RRM test solution.

  • Through test case verification, it is ensured that the RedCap device can support the extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) period added in the Rel-17 standard, that is, the time the device remains in sleep mode to extend battery life. This verification was completed using the Keysight S8704A protocol conformance test tool suite, and the RedCap Rel-17 eDRX GCF work item was activated.

"Enhancing connectivity performance is a top priority for network operators to provide better quality of service to end users," said Muthu Kumaran, general manager of Keysight's Device Validation Solutions Group . "NR enables multi-antenna systems, and now, Keysight has The introduction of approved tests to the market will ensure that device performance is fully tested. In addition, verification of the enhanced energy-saving features supporting Rel-17 is crucial to promote the development of 5G NR Rel-17 and promote the market introduction of commercial 5G NR and RedCap devices important."
