18650 refers to the size of the battery. What determines the properties and performance characteristics of a lithium battery is the internal positive electrode material. For example, 18650-3.2V1.5Ah refers to a cylindrical lithium iron phosphate battery with a diameter of 18mm and a height of 65mm. Its nominal voltage is 3.2V and its nominal capacity is 1.5Ah. It is a thermally stable and relatively safe type of lithium battery currently available.
There are also ternary 18650 lithium batteries such as nickel-cobalt-manganese and nickel-cobalt-aluminum. The energy density of these batteries is higher than that of lithium iron phosphate, but their safety and thermal stability are not as good as those of lithium iron phosphate. All comparisons are based on the same processing and manufacturing level.
