u-blox cloud positioning solution wins 2022 IoT Evolution Asset Tracking Product Award
The SARA-R510M8S cellular communication and positioning combination module is highly recognized in the field of battery-powered cloud-connected IoT asset tracking solutions due to its low power consumption and high performance.
Recently, u-blox (SIX:UBXN), a leading global provider of positioning and wireless communication technologies and services, launched its latest SARA-R510M8S module, which won the 2022 IoT Evolution Asset Tracking Product Award from IoT Evolution magazine, a world-renowned publication focusing on IoT technology .
The module integrates cellular communications and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) technology with u-blox’s CloudLocate cloud-based positioning service to enable ultra-low power asset tracking solutions.
The advantage of this solution is the high integration of hardware and services
. The u-blox SARA-R510M8S LTE-M cellular communication module has a built-in M8 GNSS positioning chip, which can receive 3-5 seconds of GNSS signal snapshots. After initial signal processing, the M8 GNSS chip transmits 12-50 bytes of raw measurement messages to the module's cellular communication modem, which then uploads them to the cloud.
Finally, users can obtain the location of the asset through the u-blox CloudLocate service.
Striving for ultra-low power consumption
u-blox cloud positioning solutions are mainly suitable for IoT asset tracking applications with low location update frequency (daily/times or less) and long battery life, providing them with reasonable positioning accuracy and required cloud positioning.
The solution stores the captured position information on the device, but does not necessarily calculate it on the device, but rather by a cloud service. By moving the power-consuming positioning calculation from the device to the cloud, the u-blox cloud positioning solution consumes only 1/10 of the power of a standalone GNSS module in energy-saving mode.
