Lenovo: We are one of the cleanest companies in China
Lenovo Group announced that the company has once again been listed on the Carbon Clean 200, a world-renowned clean energy ranking, this year, and its ranking has risen from 19th last year to 11th.
This means that Lenovo is one of the 200 global companies with the largest use of low-carbon energy in 2019. It is also still the company that uses the most clean energy among mainland Chinese companies, and the level of cleanliness has been further improved under global industrial standards.
The Carbon Clean 200 list comes from the US non-profit organization As You Sow and Canadian market research organization Corporate Knights. It ranks the world's 200 cleanest listed companies, requiring a market value of no less than US$1 billion and revenue generated by clean energy of no less than 10%. It aims to encourage companies and investors to jointly build a clean energy future.
At the same time, Lenovo Group was also selected for another environmental protection-related list, The Global 100, ranking 97th, and is one of only two companies from mainland China on the list.
The Global 100 list counts the world's most sustainable companies, also from Canadian market research organization Corporate Knight. The entry threshold is a listed company with a global market value of at least US$2 billion.
This list mainly focuses on the proactive efforts of companies in three major areas, including carbon emissions, clean energy and water use; positive roles in charity and gender equality; corporate ethics, financial compliance, etc., and breaks down 21 sub-items such as financial management, clean income, supplier performance, employee management, resource management, etc. for comprehensive scoring.
Lenovo proposed that the core of sustainable development is environmental protection, but it is not just about environmental protection, it is more about the direction of society and corporate governance, especially transparent corporate governance. Volkswagen’s "diesel gate" and Boeing’s 737 Max aircraft accident and grounding are typical counterexamples, which are enough to show how huge the impact of corporate non-compliance and non-transparent operations will bring.
Lenovo said that as a technology company with the largest global PC market share and the largest supercomputer TOP500 market share, Lenovo has formulated strict sustainable development policies.
Lenovo has extensive industry experience in hardware product production. With the support of its own factories and years of manufacturing experience, all of its hardware products comply with the EPEAT (international standard for evaluating the environmental performance of electronic products) Silver Certification from design and production to energy use and recycling, and can meet the needs of the product life cycle.
In 2013, Lenovo launched its Responsible Sourcing Program and worked with the Responsible Minerals Initiative to help reduce mineral mining conflicts, forced labor and unsafe work around the world.
As a global company with operations in 180 countries and regions around the world, Lenovo's efforts in social and corporate governance transparency have also been recognized.
In February 2020, Lenovo Group was once again selected for the 2020 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI), which aims to recognize companies committed to improving gender reporting transparency and advancing women's equality.
Lenovo emphasizes that at Lenovo, "clean" is more than just a literal meaning. Lenovo is not only environmentally friendly, but also one of the best companies in China in terms of fairness, integrity and compliance.
