Whether externally or internally, Xiaomi has been making frequent moves in the smartphone field.

To the outside world, Xiaomi first announced the release time and spokesperson information of its new generation flagship product Xiaomi 9 after the Spring Festival. Later, Lei Jun and Xiaomi's relevant product personnel promoted Xiaomi 9 on Weibo. The configuration, design and even renderings of this product have been almost completely exposed by the official, leaving only the price.

Internally, Xiaomi released a notice on February 28 regarding organizational adjustments and appointments for the mobile phone department. The notice shows:

  • In order to strengthen the strategy and operation of the mobile phone department, the mobile phone department established a staff department and appointed Zhu Lei as the chief of staff, responsible for the sales operation of the mobile phone business, business operation analysis, cost accounting and other businesses, and reported to Lin Bin, the president of Xiaomi.   • Wang Xiaowei, former vice president of the group's human resources department, resigned for personal reasons. We thank her for her contributions to the company over the past three years. Judging from the above adjustments, Xiaomi's mobile phone department is the top priority of this adjustment. The newly established mobile phone department staff and display touch control both report to Xiaomi President Lin Bin in person, and Lin Bin himself is the general manager of Xiaomi's mobile phone department. Among them, the head of the mobile phone department staff Zhu Lei (female) used to be the vice president and sales director of Xiaomi.com, and was responsible for supervising Xiaomi's Double Eleven in 2015. At the platform level, Xiaomi has also made considerable adjustments in supervision, internal control and auditing, and security and compliance.

According to Caijing, with its own development, Xiaomi has also begun to adjust its management from flat to hierarchical. Xiaomi's internal titles are generally divided into specialists, managers, directors, and vice presidents and above, with a total of 10 levels, from level 13 to level 22. The specialist level is around level 3, the manager is around level 16 to 17, the director is around level 19 to 20, and the vice president is level 22. It is unknown whether Xiaomi's structural adjustment this time is related to this.

For Xiaomi, the development of its mobile phone business cannot afford any mistakes. Throughout 2018, Xiaomi successfully achieved shipments of more than 100 million units through expansion in overseas markets, and ranked fourth in the world, second only to Samsung, Apple and Huawei. However, despite the impressive performance, Xiaomi also has its own concerns: in the Chinese market, where Xiaomi started, Xiaomi's mobile phone performance is not outstanding.
