Whether externally or internally, Xiaomi has been making frequent moves in the smartphone field.
To the outside world, Xiaomi first announced the release time and spokesperson information of its new generation flagship product Xiaomi 9 after the Spring Festival. Later, Lei Jun and Xiaomi's relevant product personnel promoted Xiaomi 9 on Weibo. The configuration, design and even renderings of this product have been almost completely exposed by the official, leaving only the price.
Internally, Xiaomi released a notice on February 28 regarding organizational adjustments and appointments for the mobile phone department. The notice shows:
-
In order to strengthen the strategy and operation of the mobile phone department, the mobile phone department established a staff department and appointed Zhu Lei as the chief of staff, responsible for the sales operation of the mobile phone business, business operation analysis, cost accounting and other businesses, and reported to Lin Bin, the president of Xiaomi. The product cost department was incorporated into the mobile phone department staff department, and Wang Yang reported to Zhu Lei and assisted Zhu Lei in product cost accounting and business operation analysis.
-
The mobile phone department established the display touch department and appointed Liu Anyu as the general manager, reporting to Lin Bin. Wu Cangzhi was appointed as the deputy general manager of the mobile phone department's display touch department, responsible for the product definition and new technology of the mobile phone department's display touch department, reporting to Liu Anyu. He Jia replaced Hu Shaoxing to be responsible for product development (PD) and report to Liu Anyu. Jiang Zhongsheng was responsible for touch fingerprint and reported to Liu Anyu.
-
The core device department of the mobile phone department was merged into the hardware R&D department, with Wu Fenghui and Wang Zongqiang reporting to Zhang Lei. At the same time, an independent audio core device team was established, led by Xiang Diyun and reporting to Zhang Lei.
-
In order to strengthen the construction and management of the domestic regional headquarters, Liu Guojun was appointed as Vice President of Regional Development Department and General Manager of Wuhan Headquarters, reporting to Qi Yan.
-
In order to improve the internal operating efficiency of the platform, the Group Supervision Department and the Internal Control and Internal Audit Department were merged into the Internal Control and Internal Audit Supervision Department, and Liu Shaoshun was appointed as the general manager, reporting to Zhou Shouzi; Li Tingting was appointed as the director of the Supervision Department, reporting to Liu Shaoshun.
-
The original Group Safety Department was split into the Safety and Compliance Department and the Safety Management Department. The Safety and Compliance Department was incorporated into the Group Quality Committee, and Li Tao was appointed as the Director of the Safety and Compliance Department, reporting to Yan Kesheng; the Safety Management Department was incorporated into the Government Affairs Department, and Wang Yong was appointed as the Director of the Safety Management Department, reporting to He Yong.
-
Wang Xiaowei, former vice president of the group's human resources department, resigned for personal reasons. We thank her for her contributions to the company over the past three years. The management of the group's human resources department will be temporarily taken over by Jin Ling, deputy director of the group's organization department, and her human resources-related work will report to Zhou Shouzi.
Judging from the above adjustments, Xiaomi's mobile phone department is the top priority of this adjustment. The newly established mobile phone department staff and display touch control both report to Xiaomi President Lin Bin in person, and Lin Bin himself is the general manager of Xiaomi's mobile phone department. Among them, the head of the mobile phone department staff Zhu Lei (female) used to be the vice president and sales director of Xiaomi.com, and was responsible for supervising Xiaomi's Double Eleven in 2015. In addition, the hardware R&D department of Xiaomi's mobile phone department is headed by Zhang Lei.
At the platform level, Xiaomi has also made considerable adjustments in supervision, internal control and auditing, and security and compliance.
According to Caijing, with its own development, Xiaomi has also begun to adjust its management from flat to hierarchical. Xiaomi's internal titles are generally divided into specialists, managers, directors, and vice presidents and above, with a total of 10 levels, from level 13 to level 22. The specialist level is around level 3, the manager is around level 16 to 17, the director is around level 19 to 20, and the vice president is level 22. It is unknown whether Xiaomi's structural adjustment this time is related to this.
Leifeng.com noted that in the past two years, Xiaomi has undergone several major structural adjustments, taking the opportunity of its listing. For example, Xiaomi established the General Staff and Organization Department in 2018, with Xiaomi Senior Vice President Wang Chuan and Liu De in charge, and then appointed Wang Chuan as President of Xiaomi China. In a series of adjustments, Xiaomi's organizational structure has gradually become stricter and more formalized. At the same time, some analysts said that in the process of self-adjustment, the co-founders of Xiaomi have also begun to give way to excellent middle-level employees, making the development of the entire Xiaomi more dynamic.
Judging from the organizational structure adjustment of the mobile phone department this time, this statement is true.
For Xiaomi, the development of its mobile phone business cannot afford any mistakes. Throughout 2018, Xiaomi successfully achieved shipments of more than 100 million units through expansion in overseas markets, and ranked fourth in the world, second only to Samsung, Apple and Huawei. However, despite the impressive performance, Xiaomi also has its own concerns: in the Chinese market, where Xiaomi started, Xiaomi's mobile phone performance is not outstanding. In Q4 2018, Xiaomi's shipments in the Chinese market were only 10.3 million units, ranking fifth, even lower than Apple.
It can be seen that Xiaomi still has a lot of room to improve its domestic smartphone business.
At present, Xiaomi Mi 9 is about to be released. Judging from the official preheating on Weibo, it clearly carries Xiaomi's ardent expectations for the development of its smartphone business. Leifeng.com will keep an eye on this "battle angel" that is both good-looking and powerful.
