New product|Helping autonomous driving move towards the future, high-resolution wheel speed sensor HR WSS is launched
Industry Insights
According to a recent McKinsey survey, executives from the world's leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers generally believe that SAE Level 2+ autonomous driving technology will begin to dominate the market as early as 2030, and will quickly jump from Level 3 to Level 4 in the next few years. This means that future cars will become more and more like intelligent devices that integrate multiple sensors and can achieve all-round perception .
TE New Arrivals
TE Connectivity (hereinafter referred to as "TE") has profound technical accumulation in the field of intelligent vehicles and has been committed to using advanced sensing technology to provide a strong technical foundation for the successful operation of driverless cars. Recently, TE has launched a new product for intelligent vehicles - a high-resolution wheel speed sensor (HR WSS) that combines advanced digital processing algorithms, giant magnetoresistance (GMR) technology and customized packaging .

HR WSS Highlights
The HR WSS has a measurement resolution that is four times higher than TE's previous generation Hall technology sensor, providing highly accurate wheel speed, position and direction data, which is very important for advanced autonomous driving functions such as motion path planning, automatic parking and parallel parking, automatic emergency braking and enhanced hill assist.
The HR WSS sensor enables OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to meet SAE regulations for ADAS, specifically SAE Level 2+ for systems that independently manage critical driving functions . The sensor maintains low jitter across the entire air gap detection range, is robust to vibrations, and supports multiple output protocols. It operates over a wide temperature range and ensures fast and reliable direction detection for all pulses, providing instant feedback on vehicle movement.
Specific product advantages
Enhanced motion control capabilities
HR WSS is able to provide high-resolution data for precise motion path planning and instant forward/reverse signal detection. This will help achieve more accurate automatic parking, improve hill-hold assist performance, and further improve the electronic braking system (EMB) in the future.
Simplified system integration
By leveraging GMR technology and low signal jitter, the HR WSS is able to simplify system installation and control algorithms. This results in a larger air gap detection range, flexible magnetic encoding diameter, and reduced signal uncertainty, thereby improving wheel position accuracy and overall system reliability.
Excellent durability
Designed to withstand harsh environments, the HR WSS features differential field measurement, rugged overmolded construction, and integrated capacitors for EMC. These features ensure that the sensor is immune to stray magnetic fields and resistant to thermal and mechanical stresses for long-term reliability.
Comply with functional safety requirements
The HR WSS meets ASIL B (D) requirements of the ISO26262 standard and features air gap detection, fast vibration recovery, internal redundancy and diagnostics. These features help meet stringent safety standards and help improve the reliability of this sensor in critical automotive applications.
