Since its establishment in Philadelphia, USA in 1968, the development of Amkor has been like a river that flows continuously, sometimes trickling and sometimes surging. Spanning two centuries and fifty years of trials and tribulations, under the personal leadership of the founder, with the joint efforts and contributions of all Amkor employees and the support and help of all partners, Amkor has grown from nothing to something, from small to large, and has overcome all difficulties and obstacles along the way, continuously developing and progressing, and creating countless glories. Amkor has become a trusted partner of the world's major semiconductor suppliers, providing the necessary packaging, services and technical support for the sustainable development of the semiconductor industry, and has pioneered a successful development path of standardization, technology and service!

Today, May 17, we celebrate her 50th birthday! Happy birthday to Amkor! On this occasion, let us turn our attention to the last century and review the development of the company.

The founding of Amkor is attributed to its founder, James J. Kim, and his father, Mr. Kim Hyang-Soo.

Born in 1912, Kim Sang-soo was a famous Korean entrepreneur, politician, writer and calligrapher. His lifelong vision was to create jobs and promote the development of his country, a vision that not only permeated his life, but also inspired his son, Kim Ju-jin.

In 1953, Mr. Kim Sang-soo founded Anam Co., Ltd., hoping to open the door to Korea's machinery industry with the bicycle industry. However, due to political struggles, this plan did not come true. So Mr. Kim turned his attention to the semiconductor industry. His idea was opposed from all sides, but he overcame all objections and resolutely included electronic manufacturing in the business scope of Anam Industry Co., Ltd. in March 1968, and began to look for factories and purchase equipment.

Mr. Kim Sang-soo's unswerving spirit also touched his son, Mr. Kim Joo-jin, who changed from an opponent to a supporter. When he learned that his father was in trouble because he could not find customers, he resolutely gave up his comfortable job as a professor at Villanova University in Pennsylvania, USA, and founded a semiconductor sales company called Amkor to help develop Yanan's business in the United States, thus starting the journey of Amkor.

Amkor Shanghai was established in March 2001. With the hard work of the pioneers who joined Amkor Shanghai at the earliest, they rented a warehouse of 25,000 square meters and transformed it into a workshop to start production. At that time, they created a miracle of completing the transformation within 6 months and passing the sample test within 3 months. After that, in 2005, they purchased IBM's idle factory buildings with cash and gradually expanded their scale to the current scale. Since its establishment, Amkor Shanghai has increased its capital 13 times, which shows the importance that Amkor attaches to Amkor Shanghai. Amkor Shanghai has focused on high-end products from the beginning. Many technologies were introduced to China for the first time by Amkor, including 8-inch and 12-inch chip bump packaging/WLCSP. With the efforts of leaders and employees from all walks of life and the inheritance of the pioneers of Amkor Shanghai, Amkor Shanghai has climbed one peak after another and continued to grow and develop! In 2014, Amkor Shanghai welcomed its first Chinese president. His arrival strengthened Amkor's attention to the Chinese market. At the same time, with his arrival, Amkor's market share in China has also increased rapidly year by year. General Manager Zhou Xiaoyang also brought a new corporate culture to the company: dedication, growth, joy and release of kindness. Dedication based on conscience, growth based on ability, and joy based on love are the requirements for employees themselves and for the company. It is our simple wish to encourage employees and the company to grow together, to release kindness from "I", to influence the people around us with kindness, and to make the world a better place.

In 2017, Amkor Shanghai had an output value of nearly RMB 4 billion and a total of 5,700 employees, making it one of the world's largest single-site semiconductor packaging and testing factories.

Amkor Shanghai not only attaches importance to business growth, but also attaches great importance to environmental protection and contribution to the green earth. Amkor Shanghai's 6MW solar power generation project will be connected to the grid next month. By then, Amkor Shanghai will become the world's first integrated circuit production plant with nearly 100% solar energy covering its roof. In recent years, Amkor Shanghai has invested nearly 10 million US dollars in green treatment of exhaust gas, water recycling, rainwater collection and utilization, energy conservation and emission reduction, making its greatest possible contribution to the green mountains and clear waters of Shanghai and China.

The healthy development of Amkor Shanghai is inseparable from the lovely employees who selflessly dedicate their youth, sweat and wisdom to Amkor. Only you and only us can make Amkor Shanghai so brilliant!
